MILLIE
But I wanted to go!
TOOTSIE
But there is a reason………
(Garry comes downstage and is confronted by Millie)
MILLIE
(angry)
How could you get Fgm to choose you when you knew I wanted to go
GARRY
But I……I’m sorry
MILLIE
You know, once I thought I was falling in love with you. (she pokes him angrily with her finger) Now just because I got called away, you get yourself picked to go. How could you! I wanted to be the one to help free that beautiful eagle. You‘re hateful!
(she pummels her fists on Garry’s chest and then puts her face in her hands, sobs and rushes off stage left. Tootsie goes after her and exits left)
GARRY
Ok. That’s it. (he calls off right) Fairy godmother!
(Fgm enters right)
I’ve made my mind up. I want to go
FGM
You know you do not have to
GARRY
Yes, but I want to do it. Look, you said I would have special protection. How does that work?
FGM
The Ww will cast a spell at you
While your back is turned
And it will not harm you.
But beware. If she casts it to your face
There’ll be no hide nor hair left of you, no trace
RONNIE
You sure you still want to do this?
GARRY
Shut up!
FGM
(taking Garry and Ronnie stage right with her)
Now when you meet your foe
(she gives Garry a packet of powder)
This magic powder you must throw
Upon her and she will be gone
For good (
Fgm gives him an envelope)
Then open this and it will tell
How you can come home safe and well
(Tootsie enters stage down left unseen by the other characters who are stage right. Tootsie puts up A frame with poster about rehearsals. She overhears the next speeches)
RONNIE
Why didn’t you tell her that thing about you being the first born child?
GARRY
Well, if it all goes wrong and I don’t come back it’s better she hates me. It won’t mean anything to her.
RONNIE
You really are in love with her aren‘t you?
GARRY
Yes. But I only told you that because you’re my best mate. Now promise me you won’t tell her.
RONNIE
Ok. I promise
(Tootsie still unseen by others exits left)
FGM
Garry, if you still are willing,
It is time to go
GARRY
I’m ready
RONNIE
Fare well, brave Garry.
(They do high hand clasp. Fgm and Garry exit stage right.
Currant and Bunn enter stage left)
RONNIE
Well, you know what they say in show business
CURRANT
Ddon’t give up the dday job?
BUNN
Jay dob
RONNIE
Yes. But they also say - the show must go on!
(All cast except Fgm and Garry enter from all parts. General activity and rehearsal. Vka sits on stool down right and speaks to audience)
VKA
And now it’s time to skip a bit
It’s where they keep rehearsing it
We’ll come back in where that that’s been done
We’re only thinking of your bum
On those hard seats.
They have been rehearsing like mad
Now they’re nearly there
When they began it was quite bad
Now it’s looking ……fair
RONNIE
Ok everybody. Show starts tonight. We just need to polish up the song at the end of the first act. The rest of the show is fine.
SONG - THE SLOWLY TURNING PAGES
(JUKEBOX ON PAGE 1 - TRACK 14)
(music starts. Ronnie conducts as all cast sing)
The slowly turning pages of the story of your life
Are as wondrous as the starlight in the sky
They’re a secret store of mystery, a treasure trove that’s ripe
With battles won and lovers lost and loads of other tripe
But every now and then you must admit there’s been a time
When you were really proud of what you’d done
Now we have a feeling, that time for us has come
And we’re going to take our chance and while we’re at it have some fun
Have some fun
(Music begins)
SONG - THIS IS OUR MOMENT (pupils only sing)
(JUKEBOX ON PAGE 1 - TRACK 15)
We got pimples we got acne we got lots of teenage angst
We have tempers we have tantrums we have troubles from teenage pranks
Indecision nagging doubts always known as layabouts
Midnight limit tragic innit we just want to hang about
Wait a minute what’s our purpose what’s the reason we are here
This is our prize see it right there we can win it if only we dare
We got a dream we can hold on fast this is our future the die is cast
This is our moment and we’re going to make it last
No more worries no self doubt no more troubles to think about
Hesitation tongue tied blue-hoos with both hands we throw them out
We got a dream we can hold on fast this is our future the die is cast
This is our moment and we’re going to make it last(music fades down behind next speeches)
(JUKEBOX ON PAGE 1 - TRACK 16)
RONNIE
Ok. That’ll do it. The show starts at 7-30. Make sure you’re back here in plenty of time for costumes and make up.
MR CAMP
(excited)
Oh super!
RONNIE
Let’s go to the canteen for some refreshments
HM
Yes, come on Campy. You look as if you could do with some fairy cake.(Music comes back in. All sing)
(JUKEBOX ON PAGE 1 - TRACK 17)
Hesitation tongue tied blue-hoos with both hands we throw them out
We got a dream we can hold on fast this is our future the die is cast
This is our moment and we’re going to make it (last….…)
This is our moment and we’re going to make it (last…….)
This is our moment and we’re going to make it last……………
